CA101, Inspire me # 5

San Diego, here I come!

CULTURE: BALBOA PARK

Dating from the beginning of the 19th century, the Balboa park de San Diego is one of the oldest in the country and the green lung of the city. It includes more than 20 museums of art, culture and science as well as a superb botanical garden. Much of the Spanish Renaissance style architecture in the park is beautifully preserved. And although each building has its own aesthetic merits, the California tower of the Musée de l'Homme stands out. Climb the seven floors of this delicately decorated 60-meter structure: you will enjoy an incomparable 360 ° view of the park and beyond.

NATURE, BEACH, SHOPS: LA JOLLA

La Jolla is located on the coast, in a privileged location, 20 minutes north of downtown San Diego. At La Jolla Shores, you will enjoy the wide white sandy beaches and nautical activities, at The Cove and Bird Rock, discover the sea caves and sea lions that have made their home there. For a shopping getaway, go to Girard Avenue and Prospect Street.

Nonovelty! Laurie in California, your French-speaking guide in San Diego, will make you discover La Jolla by bike, without forgetting its favorite glacier! More info here.

MEXICAN ROOTS:

OLD TOWN

This is where the city was born, and all of the historic buildings there have been restored and turned into free museums to authentically trace the history of San Diego. The traders are disguised as a "conquest of the West", there are old horse-drawn carriages and stores of cigars and tobacco, sweets and gold diggers. It's a very colorful neighborhood!

The must : A culinary tour with tasting of Mexican specialties.

FAMILY FAVORITE: USS MIDWAY

The USS Midway is an American aircraft carrier based in San Diego Bay. In 2004, it became a giant museum after serving in the U.S. military for 47 years. This ship fought in WWII, the Vietnam War, and even the Gulf War, during Operation Desert Storm. At its maximum capacity, 5000 people worked there. Cabins, grocery store, control rooms, flight simulator, kitchens, the deck ... you're in the mood! Be careful, it's huge! The visit can quickly take a few hours.

The plus: Audioguides in French
